February sun

Experiments and installations today. Stuck clingfilm to masking tape with acetone. Have an idea to use different types of clingfilm due to the colour ranges you can get.

Inspired

First image- Susie MacMurray. Second image - Kirsten Hassenfeld. Two artists I am currently looking at. I find them interesting to compare- they have such a fragile element to their work yet it is strong and captures one's imagination.

In the studio

The photos here show my current work I am doing in the studio. I feel in track and that I am developing on a larger scale.

Buzzzzzing

Had our exhibition, "Touching", which opened today. My piece was a blind painting, where the participator approaches the work and interacts by moving the paint under the layers. It worked aesthetically, but a lot of people didn't use the blind fold. This is because I think they wanted to see what the work looked like and predict it. If I used a different material that was quite fluid, I think they would be more willing to close their eyes.

the Event

Had a great week! Sculpture show opened on Wednesday and the Event was on Thursday. It was such a fantastic night to see everyone's work in that environment and interact. We all wore masks that we had made and did live painting, performance, video and sound.

This is the piece I put in the sculpture show. I wasn't pleased with how I placed it in the surrondings and after having a tutorial, I think I could have changed it a lot. For instance; bringing it away from the wall, think about the composition- less crowded.

Drawing dreams

Went to Tate Britain archive today- inspiring stuff!!

Inspired me so much I had an urge to draw. I have created this drawing using an ornament of a fairy for initial sketches. I wanted to make it have a dream quality so emphasised certain features and left parts out.

Sunshine

This is the picture of the internet. It's organic looking and looks like a new found creature from under the sea. I like the way it shows connections between people and shows how connected we all are.

Watercolours and drawing in 3D

I have decided to do more watercolours of Jupiter and different nebulas to capture the patterns and colours. I have then decided to make a masking tape bowl inspired by the patterns of Jupiter. This didn't work out as I wanted it to be because it needs a wire structure inside to support it. I could produce it in clay instead as I could still get the desired patterns.

Drawing

I've been reading about aesthetics for the past few days whilst trying to keep sane. Also helped out at Southampton City Art Gallery- it was great to see a room transformed throughout the day.

Here is a recent drawing I've done. It's of Jupiter and I was trying to capture the movement and organic quality of it. The original idea was to have something tactile, so emboss the patterns in to the paper, but I could do this with metal/ tin-foil instead to get the required quality.
